Managing Associated Staffing’s Grand Island location, Polly Collins is a former Sales Manager, Recruiter and Commercial Sales Rep for Bosselman’s. She also has about 20 years of experience in the banking and finance industry. A Grand Island native, she currently lives in Boelus.

Q: What gets you motivated to come to work?
A: The people I work with, being around other people and helping people. At the end of the day, I like knowing I’m helping someone.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up? 
A: I wanted to be a banker because I like finance and being around customers. When I was little, I would play “bank.” I taught my daughter how to play “bank” and now she’s going into a finance position.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A:
Alaska. Seeing the scenery on TV looks beautiful. That’s on my bucket list.

Q: Who is (or has been) the most influential leader in your life:
A:
My father. My dad always instilled in us what work ethic is, how to treat other people and how to trust on a handshake. My dad has always provided for us and showed us how to make a penny go a mile, it’s all about how you spend your money. He prepared me very well on how to live life.

Q: If you could have any other job for just one day, what would it be?
A:  Comedian. To be able to make other people laugh and smile because usually I’m very serious.

Q: What traits define you?
A: Sincerity. Punctual (I’m never late!). Very open minded. I’m not a typical manager. I try to blend in and be like everyone else and not feel like I have seniority. If something needs to get done, I can get in there and get it done.

Q: What’s your greatest achievement?
A: Raising my 2 kids pretty much on my own and continuing my full-time job (sometimes two), and still making it all work. Being there for my kids (now ages 29 and 25) and still not missing work.

Q: What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned since you’ve started at Associated Staffing?
A: Learning the jobs and what’s out there, and the importance of filling each of those positions. I’ve learned a lot more about Grand Island in the last 6 months, even though I was born and raised here!

Q: Biggest challenge you face in your job:
A: Not enough hours in the day! Getting to know all of our clients and their needs. You learn something new every day!

Q: We’re a pretty great company to work for (but we may be a little biased). What’s your favorite part about your job and working for Associated Staffing?
A:
 Every day is different. You can come to work and think you know what you’re going to do and it could completely change, but that’s OK because it’s all important and it all needs to get done. That’s what I love.

Q: When you’re not recruiting, what are you doing?
A:
All I do is think about work! That’s the way I’ve always been. I think about where the next job order is coming from and where the candidates are. Always thinking of ideas to fill our positions.
