Ofelia Hernandez, a Recruiter in our Grand Island office, started as an Employment Specialist nearly 2 years ago before moving into her current role as Recruiter. Originally from Mexico, Ofelia lived mainly in South Sioux City, Neb., before moving to Grand Island in 2013.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: When I was young I wanted to be a teacher for about 5 seconds. Eventually I realized that kids aren’t my thing, mostly not a group of them.
Q: Describe Associated Staffing in just three words:
A: Helpful, fun, energetic.
Q: Funniest thing to happen at work:
A: I am always having things happen to me!
Q: What would people never guess you do in your role?
A: That I spend more time looking for candidates, than on the ones that come in the door.
Q: If you could interview anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
A: I would interview and would like to get in the mind of Bill Gates. He is one of the richest men of the world and I’d like to know what he does that makes him different from us.
Q: If you could switch your job with anyone else in the company, whose job would you want and why?
A: I would want Sarah’s job (Marketing). I think it’s awesome how she gets to see this company in a totally different way. Marketing takes so much creativity, and I think it’s amazing all the things she can do and does to market us to people’s homes and computers.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: Dubai. It’s an up and coming and growing city. I would like to get to that side of the world and travel.
Q: What hidden talents do you have?
A: I have not discovered it yet if I do.
Q: Who is (or has been) the most influential leader in your life (and why):
A: I have two. In my younger years, it would have been my older brother. When I was younger there was a time when he took care of me and my older sister for about a year. Now it would have to be my parents. They have given up everything they want to give their children the best that they can. These two leaders have been selfless and are amazing human beings.
Q: What do you do on your days off?
A: Just spend time with my family – being with them bring so much joy in my life.
