DANA COMBS OMAHA RECRUITER

DANA COMBS
OMAHA RECRUITER

Dana joined the Associated Staffing family as an Employment Coordinator in May 2015. After 10 months, she was promoted to Recruiter. Dana has 7 years of retail and customer service experience, with 3 years in management. She has also owned DLeigh Photography on the side for 6 years. A Nebraska native, she is a proud graduate of Ralston High School and currently lives in Bellevue with her husband, Andy, and their cats.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A teacher. I have several teachers in my family: both parents, aunts and uncles. I pretty much grew up behind the scenes at my mom’s school and I fell in love with every aspect of being a teacher.

Q: Describe Associated Staffing in just three words:
A:
  Family. Lively. Versatile.

Q: Funniest thing to happen at work:
A:
Quite a bit happens at work in a typical week and we always try to keep a positive and fun atmosphere. One of the funny things that happens here is when a coworker brings in her homemade salsa and forgets to tell us just how spicy it is. The first time this happened, 2 of us took a big scoop of salsa and immediately regretted our decision. We were eating popsicles, ice cubes, chocolate and anything else that would tame the burn for the rest of the day as we sat there crying.

Q: What would people never guess you do in your role?
A:
What a lot of people don’t realize we do as recruiters for Associated Staffing is that we take interest in employees’ satisfactions and dissatisfactions while on assignment with us. When someone is unsatisfied or feels they are having issues at work, we care and we take the time to reach out to our clients regarding concerns and make sure our employee’s voice is heard. We want everyone to have a positive experience and they all deserve a job they are treated fairly and can be happy in.

Q: If you could interview anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
A:
I would interview my future self. Sometimes you just need reassurance during tough times and I know my future self would just tell me it’s not a big deal and to not stress the little stuff!

Q: If you could switch your job with anyone else in the company, whose job would you want and why?
A:
Brian (owner). I’ve always wanted to own my own company or work for myself. I would want to switch with him so I could gain insight on what it would take to get started and gain advice to what works and what doesn’t.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I’ve always wanted to visit Italy. My husband and I really enjoy Italian food and being able to try it all authentically would be amazing.

Q: What hidden talents do you have?
A:
A lot of people are surprised by how quickly I can say the ABC’S backwards. That’s about the height of my talents.

Q: Who is (or has been) the most influential leader in your life (and why):
A:
The most influential people in my life would be my parents. Sounds cliché to say that, but it’s the truth! They are both in careers that they absolutely love and enjoy, which is something that I admire. They find ways to fight through even the toughest days at work or the hardest months at home and know that everything will be okay and work out in the end. I hope one day I can not only love my career as much as they do each and every day, but that I can be the kind of parent they were and are to me.

Q: What do you do on your days off?
A:
Relax at home with my husband and most recently prepare our home for our baby coming in June!

Kearney Branch Manager Kim and Kearney Recruiter Shonda with the start of their Food Drive donations.

Kearney Branch Manager Kim and Kearney Recruiter Shonda with the start of their Food Drive donations.

Every December, our teams are given a generous budget to create a project to give back to their specific community. In the past, some of our projects have included providing coats and winter clothing to local shelters, purchasing fresh meat for homeless shelters, ‘adopting’ a family through the local Salvation Army and providing care packages for deploying soldiers. In addition to our Christmas outreach projects, we’ve added a Food Drive to help stock our local food banks and charities. The team with the most nonperishable food items by December 9 will win additional funds to put toward their Christmas outreach project. Donations are being accepted until December 9 at any Associated Staffing office. Any donation is very much appreciated!

KATHY PAULIN DIRECT HIRE RECRUITER

KATHY PAULIN
DIRECT HIRE RECRUITER

Kathy Paulin joined the Associated Staffing family in September 2016 as a new addition to our Professional Staffing Division in Omaha. She has many years of HR experience in a variety of industries, including recruiting for management and executive-level positions. Kathy and her husband, Jim, live in Elkhorn.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I wanted to go in the military. I lived on bases growing up and it just seemed like I would be around people who knew me and understood me.

Q: What’s your greatest achievement?
A: Raising my kids (now 28 and 31 years old). They are very successful people and I am really proud of them.

Q: What advice do you have for future candidates?
A:
Be honest. That’s the most important thing because if you’re trying to fit yourself in a mold that doesn’t fit, nobody will be successful. You won’t be happy and the company won’t be successful. Be real honest in the interview about yourself and your skills.

Q: If you could interview anyone (dead or alive), who would it be?
A:
I would love to interview my dad. That would be fun to get his take on things.

Q: What hidden talents do you have?
A:
I’m a storm chaser through REACT. I enjoy that during the seasons. We observe and report what we see to the National Weather Service. During the off-season, we volunteer for different events (air shows, marathons, walk-a-thons).

Q: If you could switch your job with anyone else in the company, whose job would you want?
A:
Marketing. I like the creativity and the marketing side of things. It would be a true challenge.

Q: Who is (or has been) the most influential leader in your life:
A:
I had a mentor in my very first HR job and he brought me up through the ranks and fast tracked me in my career in human resources. He’s been the most influential in my career.

Q: What would people never guess you do in your role?
A:
I don’t think anyone knows just how many resumes I look at in a day. By 10 a.m. yesterday morning, I had looked at over 500 resumes.

Q: Describe Associated Staffing in just three words:
A:
 Friendly. Professional. Customer-oriented.

Q: What do you do on your days off?
A:
My husband and I spend time with our dog, go to wineries, walk in the Old Market and try to get some time in with our grandkids as well.

Associated Staffing was honored with a 2016 American Staffing Association Care Award. This national awards program recognizes outstanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives—business processes that produce an overall positive effect on society—among ASA member staffing firms, associate members (staffing industry suppliers), and regional councils and affiliated chapters.

Associated Staffing was honored for its Volunteer Time Off policy, Christmas outreach projects, company match program, Personal Growth Model Wellness Program and financial commitment to major organizations.

“Associated Staffing is dedicated to the communities that we live and work in,” said Larry Roepke, Chief Financial Officer. “Our company culture is to give back to our communities with our time, our talents and financially. This is a rewarding part of our culture that helps grow strong employees, strong communities and a strong organization.”

The ASA Care Awards honor CSR initiatives that involve employee training and professional development, community engagement, “green” business practices, philanthropy and more. A panel of CSR experts selects the honorees.

ASA Care Award honorees will be celebrated at Staffing World® 2016, the ASA convention and expo, Oct. 25–27 in San Diego, Calif.

“By giving our team the opportunity to join community organizations, we spread our net wider, allowing us to educate the community on the value of Associated Staffing, all while giving back to that specific organization and community,” said Heidi Isley, Director of Operations. “It also provides professional and personal growth opportunities for each of our team members.”

About the American Staffing Association
